Memory Foam Density Guide
Maybe you are considering purchasing a memory foam and are confused at all the different information that is provided by mattress manufacturers.
For example all memory foam mattresses will have information on how thick the memory foam used in them is and what its density is. If you are confused that what these things mean take a look at the memory for the density guide and your questions should be answered.
Firstly you need to be aware that the density of memory foam is shown as kilograms per cubic metre it is also calculated in this way. To make this easier to understand this means that if a memory foam mattress which had a density of 60kg/m a one metre block of this memory foam would weigh 60kg – the same goes for other densities – i.e. a 50kg/m block would weigh 50kg and so on. So when you see a density expressed for a memory foam mattress this is how it is calculated.
Memory format of these which have a higher density are recognised as being of a higher quality than one with a lower density. However experts recommend that anyone looking to buy a memory foam mattress should choose a density of between 40 kg to 65 kg as this will provide the best support. As you would imagine a memory foam mattress that has a high density will be much firmer than one with a lower density. So if you want a mattress that is very firm you need to opt for a density of around 60kg/m or above. Similarly if you want a softer mattress choose a lower density and your needs will be met.
As well as thinking about the density of the memory foam mattress that you are choosing you should also look at the depth of the memory foam. Anything less than 5cm deep will not provide you with any of the benefits associated with memory foam even if it is a high density. Ideally you should look for a mattress that has memory foam that is at least 6cm deep and has a medium to high density as these will provide an excellent level of support.
Now that you know a little more about memory foam density you should be ready to take a look at the different mattresses that are available. Remember that a good memory foam mattress should have a density of at least 40kg/m for a softer mattress or 55kg/m for a firmer one.
